Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has decided to make land reclassification free for plots up to 25 cents. Along with this, the state is planning to simplify the entire process to make it easier for the public.

Currently, many landowners face delays and confusion due to lengthy paperwork and unclear procedures. To address this, the Revenue Department is preparing an amendment to the existing rules. Once implemented, the changes are expected to speed up approvals and reduce the burden on applicants and officials alike.

The most important change is that village officers will no longer have to collect excessive information for each application. Instead, they will prepare their reports using data already available in official records like the Thandapper Register and other revenue documents. This will eliminate the need for repeated field visits and unnecessary form-filling.

Applications will be submitted online, and decisions will be made by the RDO or Deputy Collector based on the simplified reports. This is expected to bring faster approvals and reduce the backlog of pending requests across the state.

The move will benefit thousands of people who are waiting to reclassify small plots for building homes or starting small businesses. It will also help streamline larger reclassification related to real estate and industrial projects. The new rules are expected to come into effect soon.
