Yuva Morcha Leader Taken Into Custody for Allegedly Assaulting Live-In Partner

Kochi: A Yuva Morcha leader has been taken into custody on allegations of assaulting his live-in partner, the police said on Friday. The accused, Gopu Paramasivan of Thevara, had been living with the woman in a rented house at Vyttila. Paramasivan was the district general secretary of Yuva Morcha, the youth wing of the BJP.
According to the FIR, the 36-year-old complainant had been staying with Paramasivan since May 2021. She alleged that he started assaulting her after she returned from spending a short period with her husband and children at Vaduthala in 2021
The latest incident took place on Thursday around 3.30 pm. While ironing Paramasivan’s shirt, the woman placed his helmet on the floor. The FIR states that Paramasivan questioned her about this and allegedly beat her on the face and back. She also said she was beaten with an electric wire, and accused him of attempting to murder her by grabbing her neck
The woman told police she left the house on Thursday because she could no longer bear the violence. After she left, Paramasivan reportedly approached the police and filed a complaint claiming she was missing. A short while later, the woman reached the Maradu police station with injuries across her body and filed her statement.
Police said she had multiple bruises and blood clots. The woman is divorced and has two children from her previous marriage. In her statement, she also said Paramasivan had threatened to kill her children.
Based on her complaint, police registered a case of attempt to murder and assault. Paramasivan was taken into custody and brought to the Maradu police station. Police officials said the investigation is in progress and his arrest will be formally recorded soon.
