Kochi: Police have confirmed that the incident in which a woman’s body was found tied inside a sack at Thevara, Ernakulam, is a case of murder.

According to police officials, the body was found on the pathway leading to house of a resident named George in Konthuruthy in Thevara, triggering suspicion of murder. He was arrested earlier by police for questioning.

During interrogation, George admitted that he murdered the victim. He further claimed that he lost consciousness while attempting to dispose of the body. According to his statement, he brought the woman to his house from the vicinity of the Ernakulam South railway station. He alleged that the victim was a sex worker and that a financial argument broke out between them after reaching the house. George told police that he killed her by striking her on the head with a hammer, also admitting that he was drunk at the time.

After the murder, George reportedly tried to cover up the crime by attempting to move the body out of the house, but collapsed midway in an unconscious state. The woman’s body was found half-naked. Police also received information that George had visited nearby shops earlier in search of a sack, allegedly to conceal the body.

The investigation is ongoing.

The body was first spotted on Saturday morning by sanitation workers in the area. The identity of the deceased woman has not yet been established.
