Fresh Fraud Claims Emerge Against Yuva Morcha Leader Arrested for Assault

Kochi: A former BJP office staff member has levelled fresh allegations against Yuva Morcha Ernakulam City District General Secretary Gopu Paramashivan, who was taken into custody on Thursday for allegedly assaulting his live-in partner. The woman accused Gopu of financial fraud and claimed that the party leadership protected him despite multiple complaints.

According to her, Gopu took money from her promising to arrange a lawyer for a pending case. However, when there was no progress, she contacted the lawyer’s office and learned that Gopu had not paid the amount as claimed. She said she informed the BJP district president but no inquiry followed. She also approached other BJP leaders but received no response. The woman said she later lost her job, and that Gopu subsequently circulated derogatory remarks about her and her husband.

Police had arrested Gopu yesterday based on a complaint filed by his live-in partner, who alleged that he locked her inside their Vyttila residence and assaulted her using a mobile charger cable and other objects. Officers confirmed multiple bruises and injuries across her body.

The couple had been living together for several years. A day before the arrest, Gopu had approached police claiming the woman was missing. When officers contacted her, she returned to the Maradu police station and detailed the repeated assaults. The complainant, who is divorced and has two children, told police that Gopu had threatened to kill her and harm her children if she disclosed the violence.

The two had been residing in a flat in Ernakulam for the past five years. Thursday’s assault, she said, was triggered by a trivial issue—placing Gopu’s helmet on the floor while ironing his shirt. She left the house afterwards, switched off her phone, and sought refuge at a relative’s home.

After she arrived at the police station, officers summoned Gopu, who was unaware that she had filed a complaint. Following questioning, he was taken into custody. A case has been registered against him under charges including attempt to murder and assault.

Police sources said Gopu is close to several senior BJP leaders and had allegedly used political influence to threaten the woman. He had also been active in campaigning for BJP candidates during the last local body elections.

Despite the seriousness of the allegations, BJP leaders have not yet responded.
